    "default": "In accordance with the version of this drink in Charles H. Baker's Gentleman's Companion (1939), I'm a strong advocate of a quick lime muddle as the first step of construction. Squeeze the lime juice into a separate vessel and drop the spent shell into a highball glass. Squash it to remove the oils, then add cubed ice, rum, lime juice and cola. Give it a good stir with a barspoon and add more ice or cola if desired."

  "history": {

    "default": "Just because a mixed drink only contains two or three ingredients, it doesn't discount it from being a great contender. Despite our overfamiliarity with it, Coca-Cola is an undeniably brilliant and, dare I say it, complex product. The fact that I'm drawn to drink it on both a hot summer's day and a cold winter's evening is an achievement that cannot be ignored. And the fact that it pairs so well with rum should not come as a surprise—citrus, spice, and light floral aromatics are all long-time bedfellows of cane spirit."
