"default": "Build the drink into a highball glass filled with plenty of cubed ice. Unlike most cocktails, it's nice to take a backwards approach and add the rum to the glass last, along with a squashed wedge of lime. This means you get the full effect of the storm as the light and heavy liquids fight to remain separate."

"default": "There are only a handful of cocktails on the planet that are legally trademarked, and for reasons unknown, all but one of them (the Sazerac) is based on rum. The Dark 'n' Stormy is one such drink, made using Gosling's Black Seal rum, ginger beer and, occasionally, lime juice. It has been under the stewardship of Gosling Brothers in Bermuda since it first manifested itself around the time of World War I. The flavor pairing has more distant origins and of course you're free to call a dark rum and ginger whatever you like, but if you're using the name Dark 'n' Stormy on a cocktail menu or even in a book, you are legally obliged to use Gosling's in the recipe. Gosling's first trademarked the drink in the late 1970s, and since then, Bermuda has become its unofficial home. As for the name of the drink, that was likely chosen on account of its brooding appearance—dark clouds of alcohol and spice engulfing each other in a disquieting fashion."
