"default": "What is perhaps most noteworthy about this drink is that it was invented by Ada \"Coley\" Coleman at the Savoy's American Bar in London. Coley worked at the Savoy from 1903 to 1924, during a period when women were not permitted to drink in there. Coleman created the Hanky-Panky for actor Charles Hawtrey (1858–1923) who, when he wasn't starring in West End musicals and silent movies, spent a great deal of time gambling, drinking and getting married and subsequently divorced. The drink consists of equal parts dry gin and sweet vermouth accompanied by a splash of Fernet-Branca and a twist of orange and shares a great deal of similarity to Gin & It (equal parts gin and Italian vermouth), which became very popular in London during Prohibition (1920–33)."
